The Francis Ibhawoh Scholarship is awarded annually to eligible students with the best entries in the Francis Ibhawoh Annual Essay Competition for Undergraduates. The essay competition focuses on topical contemporary issues relating to local community and national development with a view to proffering solutions to these issues.
The Scholarship is currently open to full-time undergraduate students of Edo State origin in tertiary institutions in Edo State. There are plans to expand the scholarship across Nigeria. The Francis Ibhawoh Foundation's Board of Directors administers this scholarship and is responsible for determining the eventual winners of the competition.
The decision of the Board is based on the recommendations of a screening committee (which consists of at least two (2) members of the board). The screening committee reviews all entries and makes recommendations to the Board. The Board also reviews and sets the annual criteria for the award of this scholarship.
Prizes of N100,000 each will be awarded.

Additional Details
Scholarship recipients are selected based on merit and on the following criteria:
- Applicant must be enrolled (full time only) in an undergraduate degree programme in a duly accredited Nigerian university with a minimum CGPA equivalent of 2:1 grade
- Essay must be the original work of student (between 2000 and 3000 words)
- All applicants must cite sources they used in the research work following establish academic conventions
- All applicants must submit a copy of student ID and a letter from head of department affirming his/her status as a bona fide student
- Applicants must sent a current CV
- Applicants must be prepared for interview by Board Member(s) if the need arises
- Applicants must be a Nigerian
- Applicants must submit a copy of Certificate of Local Government of Origin
- Applicants must submit a current passport photograph

- Annual review of all qualified entries commences on June 30
